Robert Linton, M.A. is a marriage and family therapist registered intern (IMF70224), supervised by psychologist Christopher Emerson, Ph.D. (PSY23147). Robert holds a Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University. He completed his clinical training at the Center for Individual and Family Counseling (CIFC) in North Hollywood, California, where he began seeing a wide range of clients in 2011.
Mr. Linton's clinical focus is to create a uniquely safe, non-judgemental, and empathetic environment in which clients are able to discuss and work through particularly difficult issues that they may never have felt comfortable discussing anywhere else. This may appear as depression, anxiety, or low self-esteem, but often includes feelings of emptiness, difficulty in navigating relationships, repeated experiencing of the same problems in daily life, and frequent feelings of hurt, loss, or abandonment. Robert uses psychodynamic, humanistic, existential, and cognitive modalities to help individual clients change the rigid, repeating, and self-defeating patterns of perception and behavior that keep them feeling stuck or hopeless.
Robert works with couples who find themselves in repeating relationship patterns that leave them feeling alone, misunderstood, and searching for more intimacy, communication, and closeness with each other. He specializes in working with couples who are rebuilding relationships after infidelity, and with the individual partners who have experienced betrayal and loss.
Mr. Linton is experienced in working with clients struggling with addiction, sexual anorexia, social anxiety, chemical dependency, employment as sex workers, and also with their partners. Robert also has significant experience with legal professionals, and has particular insight into the stresses, both professionally and personally, that can be experienced by attorneys in the high-pressure world of the practice of law. He is a prelicensed member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT).
